Privacy Policy

Who we are

Ekavo is a pronunciation coaching app for American English, operated by Decimal Grove LLC ("we", "us"). This is the privacy policy for both the app and the ekavo.app website. Questions about anything here: hello@ekavo.app.

What we collect, and why

Your account. When you first open the app we create an anonymous account so you can look around. If you sign up, we store the details your sign-in provider shares with us (such as your email address and name) through Firebase Authentication, along with the preferences you set in the app — your native language, level, chosen coach, and time zone.

Your recordings. When you tap the mic, your recording is sent to our server and passed to Microsoft Azure's speech service to be scored. Once scoring finishes, the recording is discarded — we do not keep your audio on our servers. What we keep is the result: your scores, per-sound and per-word detail, timings, and the pitch contour of what you said. To let you replay your take, the app keeps a copy only on your device, in temporary storage. That copy is deleted when you record a new take or leave the screen, and your phone may clear it sooner. It is never uploaded again.

Your practice history. We store your attempts and their scores, how much audio was assessed, your practice sessions, and your progress per sound. This is what powers your sound map, your personal plan, and your progress over time.

AI coaching. When you ask for an explanation of a score, we send the structured score data — never your audio — to an AI model (via Microsoft Azure) to write the feedback, and we store the written explanation so you can read it again later.

Purchases. Subscriptions are handled by Apple's App Store or Google Play. They process your payment; we never see your card details. We only receive confirmation of your subscription status.

Logs. Like almost every online service, our servers keep standard technical logs (IP address, timestamps, requests) for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.

This website

The ekavo.app website is static. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and contains no trackers. The one third-party request it makes is for fonts served by Google Fonts, which means Google receives the standard technical data of any web request (such as your IP address) when the page loads.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your personal data, and we don't share it with anyone for advertising.
• We don't use your recordings to train AI models — ours or anyone else's. Our service providers process your data only to provide their service to us.
• We don't show ads.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers to run Ekavo: Google Firebase for sign-in, Microsoft Azure for speech assessment, AI feedback, and hosting, and Apple and Google for billing. Each processes your data only as needed to provide their service.

Retention and deletion

We keep your practice history for as long as your account exists — that history is the product. If you delete your account (Profile → Delete account in the app), your account and everything attached to it — history, scores, preferences, AI explanations — is deleted. You can also email us at hello@ekavo.app and we'll do it for you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to object to how it's processed. Email us and we'll honor them. You won't be treated differently for exercising them.

Children

Ekavo is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and let you know in the app before the change takes effect.
